Design of the American Gold Eagle
The design of the Golden Eagle is similar to the Silver Eagle. On the front side of this silver bullion coin is an image of "Walking Liberty" - the walking goddess of freedom - one of the most popular symbols in the U.S. The Silver Eagle was designed in 1916 by A.A. Weinman and was originally the design for a silver half dollar. On the back side is the Silver Eagle, one of the state symbols of the U.S.designed by J. Mercant.
